Late Night Thoughts on AI Content (Shirley-Style Blog Post)
It’s late tonight, and I should probably be heading to bed… But instead, here I am, sitting at my computer, thinking about something that’s been popping up more and more lately—the whole issue of AI-generated content.
If you’ve been around blogging or affiliate marketing for any length of time, you’ve probably seen the discussion too. People are asking:
- “Can Google detect AI content?”
- “Will AI-written posts rank?”
- “Is this cheating… or just smart?”
And honestly? It got me thinking about my own blog. Because I’ll tell you the truth—I’m not a natural wordsmith. I’ve never been one of those people who can just sit down and beautifully express every thought in perfect words. And for a long time, that made me hesitate. It made me second-guess whether I could really get my point across.
Then, in early 2025, along came AI to my learning platform. And suddenly… I could. Not because it replaces me—but because it helps me say what I’ve been trying to say all along.
The Real Issue Isn’t AI—It’s HOW It’s Used
Here’s what I’ve been realizing (especially tonight): The problem isn’t AI content. The problem is content that feels… empty. You know the kind:

- It sounds polished, but somehow lifeless
- It says all the “right” things but doesn’t connect
- It could have been written by anyone… about anything
That’s what people are reacting to right now. And yes—some AI-generated content falls into that trap. Especially when it’s copied, pasted, and published without any personal touch. And that’s where the controversy comes from.
Search engines are getting smarter. Readers are getting smarter. And both are starting to ask:
“Does this feel real?”
Why This Matters for Our Blogs
If you’re like me—building a blog, especially in retirement or later in life—you’re not just throwing content out there for fun.
- You’re building something meaningful.
- Something that helps people.
- Something that (hopefully) earns a little income along the way.
So the last thing we want is for our content to feel generic or forgettable.
And Wait – here’s the good news…
We don’t have to give up AI to fix that. We just have to use it differently.
How to Make AI Content Sound More Human
This is what I’ve started doing—and it’s making a big difference:
- Start With Your Own Thoughts First: Before I even ask AI to write anything, I take a moment and think:
“What am I really trying to say?” Even if it’s just a few rough sentences—that’s enough. - Talk Like You Normally Talk: I’ve stopped trying to sound “professional. ”Instead, I write like I’m talking to a friend… maybe sitting across the table with a warm cup of tea. That simple shift changes everything.
- Add Little Personal Moments: Even small things help:
- “I was thinking about this earlier…”
- “This reminded me of something…”
- “I’ve noticed this on my own site…”
Those touches make the content feel real.
- Break the “Perfect Writing” Habit: Real people don’t write perfectly all the time.
- Sometimes I let sentences be a little casual.
- Sometimes I pause mid-thought.
And you know what? That actually makes the writing better.
- Always Read It Back: This is a big one. After using AI, I always read through the post and ask: “Does this sound like me?” If it doesn’t—I tweak it until it does.
My Personal Take (From a Late-Night Thinker)
Sitting here tonight, I’ve come to a simple conclusion: AI isn’t the problem. It’s just a tool. And like any tool, it depends on the person using it.
For me, AI has been a confidence booster. It helps me take the thoughts I already have and shape them into something useful—something I can actually share with others. And that feels like a good thing.
A Gentle Takeaway
If you’re worried about using AI in your blog, here’s what I’d say:
- Don’t try to sound like a machine.
- Don’t try to sound like everyone else.
- Just sound like… you.
- Use AI as your helper, not your replacement.
Because at the end of the day, the thing your readers connect with isn’t perfect writing—It’s a real person behind the words.
A Challenge for You
Ask your AI to create a “Your Style Voice Template”. This is a special prompt that reminds your AI to do certain things when creating content, making the generated content sound more like you and more human. I have my Shirley-Style Voice Template saved in my AI BLOGGING VAULT folder so I can have it open when asking the AI to create content. I won’t share it here because it’s specific to my own blog sites. But just explain to your AI that you want prompts that ask it to create more human, your-style content. Yes, AI is a useful tool that can help us with our content and we have to be aware that first we have to connect with our audience. It has an elegant and charming way of transforming a small story into something worth reading. If we do it alone it would take longer. I agree that it has to sound like something that we would personally say not to make it that perfect and cold. It depends on the topic too. I like your recommendation of begin with something that comes from our own inspiration, our own wording. What type of AI do you use?
Thank you for your comment. And the AI I use most is CharGPT. Thanks again -Shirley
