I’m being Attacked!
Have you ever clicked on a blog post…only to get attacked by ads? That’s happened to me some recently and talk about frustration – its unbelieveable.

- Pop-ups.
- Videos blasting sound.
- “Wait! Before you go!” messages every 5 seconds.
Honestly… it makes me want to leave before I even read the first paragraph. In my opinion, I’m worth more thant dealing witht that kind of experience. I refuse to be treated like that and I don’t deserve it when I just wanted to read the real content. So I simply leave and find something else to read.
And lately, I’ve had a bit of a bee in my bonnet about it. Because here’s the thing… If we’re building blogs and trying to earn income online, we don’t have to do it that way.
So lets talk about ad programs that actually have some manners.
The Problem With Today’s Ads
I get it—blogs need to make money. But somewhere along the way, things went from: “Here’s something helpful you might like…”
to:
“CLICK THIS RIGHT NOW OR YOU CAN’T READ ANYTHING 😤”
And that’s where people start leaving. Not just me—you probably do too.
Yes… There Are Polite Ad Networks
Thankfully, not all ad programs behave like that.
So I’ve been reearching and I’m going to share what I’ve found out. Here are a few that are known for being more respectful to readers:
Mediavine (My Dream Setup One Day)
This one is known for clean layouts and a better reader experience. They don’t just throw ads everywhere—they actually manage your site in a way that keeps it readable. However, you do need decent traffic to qualify, but it’s worth aiming for.
Raptive (Formerly AdThrive)
Raptive is another premium option that focuses on quality ads instead of overwhelming your visitors.
From what I’ve seen, these sites still feel like… well… blogs — Not billboards.
Monumetric (Great for Growing Sites)
This is a nice middle ground. You don’t need huge traffic, and they’re known for keeping things a bit more balanced.
Media.net (More Subtle Ads)
These ads tend to match your content, so they feel less like interruptions and more like suggestions.
AdSense (Used Carefully)
This one gets a bad reputation sometimes… But honestly? It depends on how you use it. If you keep things simple and avoid aggressive settings, it can still work just fine.
The Real Secret (This Matters More Than the Network)
Here’s what I’ve realized… It’s not just the ad program. It’s how you use it.
You can:
- Fill your site with popups and distractions
or - Create a calm, readable experience
And still earn money. For me I intend to treat my site visitors better – I want their entire visit to my site to be great (informative, helpful, beautiful and relaxing) so they return over and over again. My one popup (to signup for my email list is set for a delayed appearance, can be closed easily and is is polite and shows I appreciate my site visitors).
My Personal Decision Going Forward
If you’re like me and building a blog for the long haul… I think it comes down to this:
Do we want quick clicks… or loyal readers? Because I know which one I’d rather have.
I want people to:
- Enjoy being on my site
- Actually read what I write
- Come back again
And if that means fewer ads or slower growth? Honestly… I’m okay with that. I’d much rather be creating a nice, ethical sloer growing business than abuse my target audience for a few bucks.
A Simple Way to Keep Your Blog Clean (Without the Chaos)
If you’re just starting out—or even rebuilding your site like I’ve been doing—you don’t need to jump into aggressive ad networks right away. Honestly, I’ve found a much calmer approach works better:
- A few well-placed ads (nothing overwhelming)
- Helpful affiliate links that actually match your content
- And focusing on building trust first
One platform I’ve personally used and continue to recommend is Wealthy Affiliate. It’s where I learned how to build my blog, place content properly, and understand how monetization really works—without turning my site into a billboard.
If you’re curious how it all works, you can take a look here:

No pressure—just something to explore if you’re looking for a more balanced way to build income online.
Final Thought
The internet doesn’t need more noisy, pushy websites. It needs more places that feel like a quiet cup of tea. And that’s the kind of space I want to create.
